The Other Green Movement

The School of Visual Arts Gallery presents "Where's My Vote? Posters for the Green Movement in Iran" exhibition, from August 30 through September 25. This exhibition features over 125 political posters by graphic artists world wide, created in support of the protests in Iran that followed the 2009 presidential election. The exhibition is the first public viewing of these posters in printed form and was organized by designers Anita Kunz and Woody Pirtle, along with Francis Di Tommaso, director of the Visual Arts Gallery, and me, in collaboration with Andreas Rauch and SocialDesignZine.

A reception will be held on Thursday, September 16 from 6-8 p.m. Visual Arts Gallery, 601 West 26 Street, 15th floor, 212.592.2145.

Some lovely work here and all suitable for hanging (no pun intended), but for a real look at the Iranian Green Movement I recommend Jon Lee Anderson's "After the Crackdown: Talking to Mahmoud Abmadinejad—and the Opposition—about Iran Today" in the Aug. 16 & 23, 2010 issue of THE NEW YORKER. Unlike most of this work, it's not very pretty, but it's very persuasive.
